Captain Tom Pieper at Saratoga

It is with great sadness that I am reporting the death of Captain Tom Pieper, commander of the Grey Grove’s Company of Fusiliers, 23rd RoF, RWFiA–one of our company’s based mostly out of Ohio and western PA.  Tom passed away on Sunday, 3 March due to complications of pancreatic cancer.  Our company is fairly new so a majority of you didn’t get to meet or know Tom; but there are some in the unit that know and remember him.  Tom was there in the beginning; 50+ years ago when the regiment first formed.  He was one of the founders and did much research to establish the regiment.  He was our first Commanding Officer.  He was active in the 23rd all his adult life. He was an exemplary officer, teacher and a true gentleman.

Wearing of black armbands will be in effect for a period of time at events.  At Guilford Courthouse we will do Mourn Arms.  I understand there is a Youtube video from the 10th RoF under Additional Maneuvers you can go to to see how that is done.  We will be practicing and performing that at GCH.

For those interested in the funeral:   Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 10:30am to 11:00am at Trinity United Church of Christ, 3909 Blackburn Rd NW, Canton, OH 44718. Memorial service, officiated by Rev. Andrew Taylor-Peck, will follow at 11:00am. In following his wishes, Tom will be cremated and laid to rest at a later date; in North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to the church. Please visit www.reedfuneralhome.com to sign the online guestbook.
