The Battle of Brooklyn (also known as the Battle of Long Island) took place in late August 1776. It was the first major engagement of the American Revolutionary War after the United States declared independence and remains the largest battle of the entire war in terms of troop deployment.
The Battle of White Plains, fought on October 28, 1776, was a pivotal engagement during the New York and New Jersey campaign of the American Revolutionary War. While technically a British tactical victory, it is often remembered for George Washington’s successful narrow escape, which kept the Continental Army—and the Revolution—alive.
